Flashcard Generator
Create and study flashcards with flip-to-reveal answers.
What are Flashcards?
Flashcards are a study format invented in the 19th century — paper cards with a question on one side and the answer on the other — and they remain one of the most cognitively effective study techniques that learning research has found. Two effects do the work: active recall (forcing your brain to retrieve the answer rather than recognize it) and the testing effect (taking a test on material strengthens memory more than studying it for the same time). Modern apps layer on spaced repetition, which schedules each card for review just before you're likely to forget it — turning study time into a calibrated forgetting-curve hack. This generator handles the basic create-and-study workflow with flip cards, decks, and shuffle. While studying, time your sessions with the Reading Time Calculator, or capture review notes in the Word Counter.

How to use this tool
- 1Create a deckName your deck (e.g. 'Spanish verbs' or 'Anatomy chapter 3'). Decks group related cards so you can study by topic.
- 2Add cardsFor each card, type the front (question or prompt) and back (answer). Keep cards focused on one fact each — atomic cards retain better.
- 3Enter study modeSwitch to Study mode to flip through cards one at a time. Click to reveal the answer, then mark known or review.
- 4Shuffle and repeatShuffle the deck between sessions to break order-dependent memorization. Spaced sessions over multiple days outperform single cram sessions.
