When should you convert AVIF to PNG?

The PNG file will be substantially larger (often 5–15× bigger) because PNG can't approach AVIF's compression efficiency, but it's universally readable. Frequently asked questions

Will the PNG be much larger?
Yes — typically 5–15× larger than the AVIF. PNG is lossless and AVIF is one of the most efficient compressors ever made, so the file-size gap is huge. That's the price of compatibility + zero further quality loss.
