WebP supports both lossy and lossless encoding plus transparency.
  • Lossy WebP is roughly 25–35% smaller than equivalent-quality JPG
  • Transparency is dropped when converting to JPG
  • Animated WebP only converts the first frame to a static JPG

Frequently asked questions

What happens to WebP transparency when converting to JPG?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent regions are flattened against a background color (white by default — adjustable in Settings). If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG instead.
