What is an Age Gap?
An age gap (or age difference) is the time between two people's dates of birth. Because birthdates are fixed, the gap is invariant — it stays the same year after year, never grows, never shrinks. People look it up for siblings, couples, friends, classmates, family-tree research, or to settle a friendly dispute about who's older. The typical question is “how many years and months apart are we?” The exact answer requires calendar-aware arithmetic, not simple division: months have different lengths (28 to 31 days), leap years insert Feb 29, and rounding to “X.5 years” hides nuance.
