Age Difference Calculator

Compare 2 to 8 people by age. Custom names, exact pairwise gaps, oldest-to-youngest ranking.

What is an Age Gap?

An age gap (or age difference) is the time between two people's dates of birth. Because birthdates are fixed, the gap is invariant — it stays the same year after year, never grows, never shrinks. People look it up for siblings, couples, friends, classmates, family-tree research, or to settle a friendly dispute about who's older. The typical question is “how many years and months apart are we?” The exact answer requires calendar-aware arithmetic, not simple division: months have different lengths (28 to 31 days), leap years insert Feb 29, and rounding to “X.5 years” hides nuance. This calculator handles 2 to 8 people at once, ranks everyone by age, and reports every pairwise difference. Pair it with the Age Calculator to find the current age of any individual, or the Day of Week Calculator to look up the weekday each person was born.

Frequently asked questions

How is the age difference calculated?
We compute the difference between dates of birth using calendar units — full years past since the older person's last birthday relative to the younger's, then the remaining months, then the remaining days. Because months have unequal lengths (28–31 days), the final 'days' figure refers to the previous calendar month, not a generic 30-day window. This is the same arithmetic browsers and spreadsheets use for DATEDIF.
